Sculptra®

As we age, we lose volume in our faces. With Sculptra®, you can restore the lost volume and add back the youthfulness to your face with long term results lasting up to two years and beyond. Sculptra® is different from other dermal fillers in that it works by inducing new collagen growth, which is the reason such long lasting effects can be obtained. Sculptra®, is a synthetic injectable material known as "poly-L-lactic acid". Poly-L-lactic acid is a biocompatible, biodegradable material that has been widely used for many years in dissolvable stitches, soft tissue implants, and other types of implants, which prompts the skin to produce the new collagen and give back the fullness that has been lost. This natural restructuring of the skin continues long after treatment with Sculptra®, leaving the face firmer and more youthful in appearance. Sculptra® can also be used to rejuvenate the skin appearance of the back of the hands that occurs with age.

Sculptra® FAQs

  • Where is Sculptra® used?

Sculptra® is most commonly used on the face, however other areas may be treated.

  • Are results from dermal filler injections seen immediately?

No. At your first treatment visit it may appear that Sculptra® worked immediately. That is because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra®. In a few days, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra® takes time to gradually correct the depression in your skin. At this time, we will see you again to decide if you need more Sculptra® injections.

  • How many treatments are needed?

Your ARC Dermatologist will decide with you the number of treatment sessions and the amount of Sculptra® you will need at each treatment session. Patients with severe facial fat loss may require three to six treatment sessions. Touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effect.

  • Are dermal filler injections painful?

When performed by a trained physician, Sculptra® injections should only cause slight discomfort. Though Sculptra® is injected into the skin, it is injected in tiny amounts using an ultra-fine needle. To optimize your comfort, your trained physician may choose a local anesthetic in the treatment area prior to injecting.

  • How long do Sculptra® treatments last?

Treatment effects will differ for each person. In a clinical study the treatment results lasted for up to 2 years after the first treatment session, in most patients. Touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effect.

  • Do aesthetic injections cause any downtime?

No. Most people return to work or normal activities immediately following treatment.

  • Are there any side effects to dermal fillers?

The most common side effects with the use of Sculptra® include injection-related side effects at the site of the injection, such as bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, or swelling. These side effects generally last, on average, 3 to 17 days.
