About Jeffrey W. Champ, MD

  • Dr. Champ grew up in a suburb south of Jacksonville, Florida. When he’s not working, Dr. Champ enjoys exploring the many trails and parks in Austin, as well as camping in the state parks with his fiancée and yellow lab. He also likes cooking, especially ethnically diverse meals from scratch. And Dr. Champ admits to “playing video games on my PlayStation” and watching high-quality television and movies. Among his favorite locales in Austin are the many food trucks and food truck parks.

I originally wanted to be a veterinarian, but decided to pursue medical school instead. The science of medicine fascinates me, and having the ability to positively affect and develop lasting relationships with patients and their families are what attracted me to Family Medicine. I enjoy being one of the first providers in the healthcare chain for a given problem, and directing my patient’s care from there. I believe one of the most important things when taking care of patients is to listen, to allow the patient to fully express a problem and feel like they have been truly cared for. I also feel it is my responsibility to practice efficient and cost-effective medicine, to help keep patients out of the hospital and minimize unnecessary tests or procedures without sacrificing the quality of care.

All of my needs were addressed quickly and efficiently.

My longtime obgyn suggested I see a pcp due to recent lab results so I booked a appt with Dr. Champ (the first available at ARC SW). The assistant seemed annoyed and rushed. Dr Champ was dismissive of my concerns. He looked at my labs and assumed results were due to my diet and did not ask what my diet actually is. He said it could be something else but the common reason is diet and “common things are common.” He reluctantly ordered further labs “to give me peace of mind.” He also said results could be tied to “gynecologic stuff.” That is the actual phrase he used. I felt the appt was a waste of time and would not recommend female patients see him.
