In a recent article by the Austin American-Statesman, ARC physician, Dr. Rose Chang-Jackson, Ob/Gyn, joined other local doctors encouraging pregnant women to go ahead and get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Pregnant women are considered in the 1B priority group due to additional risks associated with being pregnant.
"The immune system is more suppressed by pregnancy," said Dr. Chang-Jackson. "[Pregnant patients] are more likely to get sick, and when they do, it can be more severe."
Vaccine benefits baby and mom
A recent study published by the American Journal of Obstestrics & Gynecology found pregnant and breastfeeding women who were vaccinated created a good antibody response to the vaccine. In addition, babies of vaccinated women had immunity that transferred through the placenta and breast milk.
