We are please to welcome Candice R. Shipp, APRN, MSN, WHNP-BC, IBCLC, to the Ob/Gyn team at ARC Center Street.
Speaking of her decision to become a healthcare provider, Candice says, "I decided to pursue a career in nursing after the birth of my first child. My nurses were supportive and made me feel confident during a time in which I felt very vulnerable and lacked confidence." She adds, "That experience was pivotal in my life and influenced my decision to change career paths and to pursue a career as an advanced practice nurse. My hope is that every patient I meet feels well cared for and supported through the provision of patient centered, evidence-based care and individualized health education."
Primary prevention is key
"Holistic care is paramount," says Candice. "I, just as many healthcare professionals, prefer to focus on all aspects of a patient's wellbeing and how their condition or reason for accessing health care will impact their physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. I believe that primary prevention is key in helping patients reach their healthcare goals and empowering them to live their best lives."
When asked about her health tips for patients, Candice says, "Incorporating mindfulness and self-care into a daily routine is an effective way to improve mental and physical health. I believe that any task performed throughout the day is an opportunity to practice mindfulness, from walking your pet or eating to washing dishes; being mindful is an unconventional prescription for better health."
In her free time, Candice enjoys, "Relaxing, reading, drinking coffee, yoga, cooking and spending time with my family and my dog, Duke."
