Health consequences for remote learners

ARC Pediatrician, Sunaina Suhag talking about remote learning consequences

Recently, Dr. Sunaina Suhag, Pediatrician at ARC, was featured in a news story on KXAN as part of their Pandemic Pass or Fail series. This particular piece addressed the importance for kids to keep moving and exercising, especially if they are learning remotely and do get exposed to daily PE classes.

In addition to the physical consequences of lack of exercise, Dr. Suhag said that exercise is important for students' social and emotional well-being as well. If kids are inactive for too long, Dr. Suhag said, changes in their appearance and behavior are likely to occur. Those consequences are compounded for vulnerable families struggling through the pandemic.

"Sometimes parents, especially in marginalized communities, are working long hours. They are tired when they get home or sometimes they are not home for most of the day," Dr. Suhag said. "We can all do our part when it comes to the people in our community who are struggling the most, including health, wellness, or financially."

Dr. Suhag is an ARC Pediatric doctor who sees patients at ARC clinics as needed. Currently, you can schedule directly for an appointment for this week only. She will be at ARC East 7th Street in East Austin when it opens early 2021, and is accepting new patients. To make an appointment with Dr. Suhag, go online to ARCBookNow.com or call 512-272-4636.
