BaxDuo Arctic Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Clinical Study

Austin Regional Clinic physicians constantly work to improve the care given to all our patients. We are dedicated to offering unique options for our patients and helping them reach their ideal health goals. Part of this dedication involves making clinical research available. Clinical research makes it possible to discover the benefits, risks, and safety of commercially available and investigational medications.

Research standards are very strict to help make studies as safe as possible. Teams of government and research experts have already reviewed each study we conduct to minimize any study risks. Austin Regional Clinic has decided to be involved in this research study because we believe it can potentially benefit our patients.

About the BaxDuo Arctic clinical study

BaxDuo Arctic is a phase III, randomized, double-blind, active-controlled study intended to assess the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of baxdrostat in combination with dapagliflozin compared with dapagliflozin alone on chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression in participants with CKD and high blood pressure. Baxdrostat is an experimental treatment, and dapagliflozin is a CKD treatment already approved in many countries.

By participating in this study, you would be contributing to the development of groundbreaking technology with the potential to benefit many people in the future. ARC is one of the many study centers in the United States participating in this research study.

What to expect

We are currently seeking candidates for a clinical research study. If the study is right for you and you choose to take part, the study will last for just over 2 years (27 to 28 months). During the study, you will be asked to:

  • Take dapagliflozin and baxdrostat tablets or placebo and dapagliflozin tablets every day.
  • Come to 13-15 clinic appointments, each lasting between 1 and 3.5 hours. During these appointments, you will have tests and assessments, like: physical exams to check your general health; measurements of your vital signs, like your blood pressure and pulse; blood and urine tests to monitor your health and check how well your kidneys are working; heart tests, called electrocardiogram (ECG), to check your heart rhythm.

Study-related procedures and study medication will be provided at no cost. In addition, participants who qualify may receive compensation for their time and travel.
