About
Jenney S. Vongprathoum, MD
-
Dr. Vongprathoum grew up in a small town along the Louisiana bayou, St. Martinville. In her free time, she and her partner enjoy playing and napping with their two cats and dog. Dr. Vongprathoum also enjoys hosting dinner parties, traveling, discovering new cuisines and restaurants, and cooking. On a lazy day, she says, “I can spend the entire day watching movies or binge-watching the latest trash reality TV show.” Among her favorite area spots is the Texas Farmers’ Market in the Mueller area in Austin.
My interest in medicine began in high school after attending a “day with the docs” event as an outreach to rural students. I began to notice the disparities in my community first-hand through the lens of my father’s health, which fueled my passion to pursue family medicine to play a role in preventing chronic disease and help those with chronic disease navigate our health system. I am an advocate to the LGBTQIA+ community and practice gender-affirming care, honing those skills. I am also interested in diabetes and obesity medicine, especially with the continued development of new medications to treat these chronic diseases.
