We are pleased to announce that Christopher S. Cowden, MD, MPH, Obstetrics/Gynecology (Ob/Gyn), has joined the team at ARC Center Street. ARC Ob/Gyn doctors are primary care physicians who focus on women's health issues including, pregnancy, fertility, birth control, mammograms, menopause, std testing, ultrasounds, and more.
"I came to medicine after beginning my professional career in public health," says Dr. Cowden. "I trained as an epidemiologist, and I conducted public health research with multiple organizations." He continues, "I was drawn to women's health for many reasons. I can serve women with a diverse set of medical needs across all stages of life."
Offering solutions that are grounded in evidence-based medicine
"My role as a physician is to listen to the concerns and needs of my patients, and to then offer solutions that are grounded in evidence-based medicine," says Dr. Cowden. "Medicine is a collaboration between the physician and the patient; I strive to create an environment in which patients feel heard and supported so that I may best help them make decisions for their health most consistent with their desires and values."
When asked for his go-to health tips for patients, Dr. Cowden says, "Don't underestimate the power of the pap test. Even if you miss your scheduled appointment, make time to complete your screening tests - they save lives!"
In his free time, Dr. Cowden says, "I enjoy spending time with my friends in Austin -- that can include hiking the Greenbelt, paddleboarding Lake Austin, catching concerts, and trying new restaurants and watering holes."
