Memorial Day is one of America's most cherished patriotic observances. The spirit of this day has not changed – it remains a day to honor those who died defending our freedom and democracy. They will always live in our memories, as they are entitled to our gratitude.
Memorial Day this year is especially important as we are reminded almost daily of the great sacrifices that the men and women of the armed services continue to make as they defend us across the globe.
As we pause to honor the military personnel who have died protecting our freedom, it is also a good time to remember that some of our armed forces have been serving in some capacity while battling for the health of our nation during the COVID-19 pandemic, and some have been lost. We are grateful for their courage and service.
For many of us, Memorial Day is a respite from work. But for many at ARC, there is After Hours call coverage, providing care for patients and the community. We sincerely appreciate those ARC employees who are staffing our After Hours Clinics, IT, Norman MD, and Central Registration through the weekend and on this holiday.
America stands strong thanks to the sacrifice of many who gave their lives to protect our freedom. Our nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repay, but we can still honor them, and take inspiration from them.
Pause for a moment of quiet reflection at 3:00 p.m., the National Moment of Remembrance, when all Americans, alone or with family and friends, are asked to pause to think about and honor those who died in service to the United States. May their courage and dedication never be forgotten.
