Championship Hearts Foundation (CHF) will provide a free teen heart screening at ARC Liberty Hill on Saturday, June 29. The screening is for all students ages 14-18, not just for athletes.
Why get screened?
CHF estimates that 1 in 500 students are at risk of having hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a serious heart condition that is the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes. CHF provides screenings for HCM since it rarely has any identifiable symptoms.
Anyone who participates in strenuous activities is encouraged to get their heart screened for possible deadly genetic heart conditions.
What's involved?
Students who attend will receive one:
- blood pressure exam
- non-invasive electrocardiogram (ECG)
- limited 2-D Echocardiogram (ECHO)
Endorsed by the Texas Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and provided by volunteer local cardiologists and ARC clinical support staff.
Data collected from the CHF goes towards research into identifying certain risk factors that can lead to heart conditions.
