ARC Discusses Telemedicine in Texas at HealthTech Austin Panel
November 09, 2016
Telemedicine is growing in interest among the general population as a way to conveniently access medical care. Yet, there are still many hurdles to overcome before it is widely available.
Dr. Jacob “Jake” Childers, ARC Family Medicine physician and Medical Director for ARC’s telemedicine product, eMD access, discussed the advantages and regulatory challenges of telemedicine at a HealthTech Austin panel (Telemedicine: Growing Pains in Texas and Beyond).
Hosted at Capital Factory, a popular innovator hub in downtown Austin, Dr. Childers was joined by fellow thought leaders Jaime Dudensing CEO of Texas Association of Health Plans and Bill Hammond CEO of Texas Association of Business.
The panelists discussed the definition of telemedicine (the ability to treat patients from a remote location) as well as the regulatory environment governing telemedicine in Texas, which is considered one of the more restrictive in the country.
ARC is uniquely experienced in the area of telemedicine having launched a telemedicine product last year. eMD Access members have access to ARC doctors 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via secure text messaging, image sharing and video chat through our HIPAA-compliant mobile platform.
Dr. Childers has been involved in telemedicine since 2012, and has been virtually treating patients for almost two years. He assisted in the early design and implementation of eMD Access.
