How employers, health care purchasers, and providers can improve value-based care delivery

Employers and other healthcare purchasers and America’s leading medical groups are collaborating to find solutions to fix the fragmented US healthcare delivery system. Employers are the largest purchasers of health care outside of the federal government and depend on networks of medical systems to provide care, but the two groups rarely communicate with each other about how to provide high-value low-cost care to employees. The challenges with the current system, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, have had detrimental effects on patient care and highlighted the fact that the fee-for-service model does not align the needs of the providers with the needs of the employers/employees.
