When Heartburn Requires Surgery
March 07, 2016
Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects over 3 million people a year. Many people suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD. In most cases, GERD can be relieved through diet and lifestyle changes; however, some people may require medication or surgery.
In cases that require surgery, Dr. Joseph Garcia, ARC Surgeon performs fundoplication surgery using the da Vinci® Surgery System. With the da Vinci® Surgery, he can “make just a few small incisions instead of one large incision.”
Dr. Garcia discussed da Vinci® Surgery for GERD on the ARC Healthcare Minute on KLBJ News Radio recently. If you missed it, you can listen to it now.
