ARC Gives Back to the Greater Austin Community

Austin Regional Clinic aims to support health care goals in the Greater Austin Community both by providing health care to individuals,and also by contributing to and participating in programs that focus on improving health conditions for EVERYONE in the community through medical care, screenings, research or education. ARC is proud to support the various local events and organizations listed below.

Dr. Kellie Rice, Pediatrician at ARC Discovery in Cedar Park, joined the marketing team at the ARC booth at Parent Wise Austin's 2nd annual Burnin' for Learnin' event on December 2nd.

Dr. Rice said: "I enjoyed meeting the parents and kids who stopped by the booth. Some who have recently moved north were glad to learn we now have multiple location in Cedar Park. And many were happy to tell us they are already ARC patients and love us!"

ARC supports the Multiple Sclerosis Walk

Debbie Bradley, RN at ARC Seton Northwest, organized and headed up a team of ARC walkers on Sunday morning, November 11 at the Dell Diamond.

"We had a great time at this walk, and we love the feeling that we've made a contribution to helping research and treat MS," Debbie said.

"The work of the Susan G. Komen Foundation is so important, and we had a great time with our team being part of this huge event, Pam said.

ARC is a proud to be a sponsor and organize a team for the AIDS Walk, hosted by AIDS Services of Austin. The walk team included Drs. Debbie Bryant (Pediatrician at ARC North Hills) and Wayne Bockmon (ARC Rundberg Square Family Practice), among many others.

"It was an honor to see so many people, including our ARC group, walking to benefit such a great community service," said ARC team Co-Captain Robin Surrey.

ARC nurse Wendy Parish and Cesar Rodriguez from online appointments joined Dr. Brady Luttrell, ARC Hutto's newest family practice doctor, at Hutto's annual Old Tyme Days festival. Attendees were offered free blood pressure screenings and giveaways.

Mindy Mason, Business Office Coordinator at ARC Far West, captained a team of 16 walkers who came in support of the annual heart walk. She even organized and held a bake sale at ARC Far West on Oct. 19th to help raise extra money for the cause.

"It was a great experience for a great cause, and a way to make friends and exercise," Sid said.

Free Screenings at American Heart Assoc. Hispanic Health Fair
Sun., Sept. 16, 2007

Thousands of area residents attended the 13th annual Hispanic Health Fest, the largest Hispanic health outreach in our area, hosted by the American Heart Association. ARC Rundberg Square nurses Tommie Santiago and Willie Walker and Marketing Manager Heidi Shalev were there offering free health information and giveaways and free blood pressure checks.

Free Blood Pressure Screening at 2007 Women's Balance Expo

Austin Regional Clinic attended the Balalnce Expo for Women at Palmer Auditorium offering hundreds of women information, giveaways and free blood pressure screenings. Several doctors helped represent the ARC Advantage, including, Shelly Sehti, Reneee Lockey, Brooks Booker, Alinda Cox, Steve Rasmussen, Brenna Lee and Leah Treadwell. Nurses Wilhemina Walker and Thelma DeSantiago provided the blood pressure checks.

Community Screenings at the Cedar Park Expo

ARC has two clinics in Cedar Park and representatives from each location participated in the Cedar Park Expo on August 4. Ann Jeffcoat and Zoila Jereb from ARC Cedar Park and Drs. Alison Ziari and Edie Lepgold from ARC Discovery were there to greet the more than 1600 visitors and to offer giveaways, information and blood pressure checks.

ARC doctors teach camp kids about health
Summer 2007

This summer, Drs. Alison Ziari, ARC Discovery, Erin Casey and Maria Scranton, both of ARC Round Rock, paid a visit to the kids at the Austin Toros basketball camp to teach them about the importance of good nutrition and healthy eating, especially when playing sports.
"Talking to the camp kids may help them recognize that their goals are impacted by their choices," Dr Ziari explained. "The kids were attentive and animated so I think they walked away with information that they can put to good use."

ARC Pflugerville was a sponsor of the Pflugerville Parks & Recreation Department's 28th Annual Deutschen Pfest Pfun Run/Walk and Kid K on Sunday, May 20. ARC entered a team of eight, captained by Evelyn Carter, Clinic Supervisor. "Our goal is to become part of the community in Pflugerville, said Evelyn, "and participating in this run is a start. After the run, we were able to hand out information about the clinic and providers, and distribute giveaways. And we all had a great time!"

ARC is a proud to be a sponsor and organize a team for the Arthritis Foundation’s 2007 Austin Arthritis Walk on Saturday, May 19, beginning at 9 a.m. at Westlake High School.  The Walk is the national signature event of the Arthritis Foundation, which recognizes those battling arthritis while simultaneously raising money to support arthritis research, community programs and services, and advocacy initiatives that help improve the lives of people with arthritis.

ARC helps you improve your own health by participating in the 20th Annual Free Skin Cancer Screening on Saturday, May 5, 8am-2pm at Brackenridge Hospital.  Free screenings will be provided by board-certified Dermatologists, including Austin Regional Clinic’s Dr. Steven Rasmussen.  Participants will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis, no appointment needed, and there is free parking in the Brackenridge Garage.

Dr. Robert Esparza bikes 150 miles for MS
April 2007

Dr. Esparza, biked from Houston to downtown Austin with his wife and other "Hot Pursuit" teammates in April of this year to raise money and awareness as part of the MS 150, benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Each biker in his team raised a minimum of $400. "It's not always fun raising money," Dr Esparza said, "but biking for charity not only benefits the organization and goes to a very good cause, but also has benefits for the rider MS is a potentially a curable disease, and I'd like to be a part of it for my own health as well as finding a cure for the disease.

Dr. Wendy Lankford represented ARC at a Women's Health Awareness Fair in Leander on April 15. Sponsored by Girl Scout Troop 545, the Fair offered information to young women and their mothers about improving and protecting health. Dr. Lankford provided the Scouts with information about cervical cancer and the HPV vaccine.

ARC employees volunteered to man a First Aid Tent at the "Texas Farm To Table" event on Saturday, March 31, as part of the annual 3-day Texas Hill Country Food & Wine Festival. Fortunately, no first aid was needed, other than band-aids!

Statesman Capitol 10K

ARC was proud to sponsor the Statesman Capitol 10K for the third time this year. It is the largest 10K race in Texas and the proceeds this year, as last year, benefitted the People's Community Clinic (PCC). PCC provides health care to the uninsured and underinsured throughout Austin. This year's proceeds also benefitted Literacy Coalition of Central Texas.

ARC doctors led a series of sessions hosted by Girlstart at UT-Austin where sixth, seventh, and eighth grade girls learned about life-changing careers through fun workshops. In the first workshop, led by Drs. Dominque Isaac, Gretchen Crook and Missy Markley, the girls got hands-on experience with lots of portable equipment. In the second workshop, led by Drs. Asha Lall, Leah Treadwell and Physician Assistant Nancy Lee, the girls practiced hands-on suturing.

On Saturday, March 17th, Dr. Anu Chadha spoke at the Austin Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America's (LFA) lunch about the current treatments for Lupus. She feels it is important to be active in the community saying, "I want to be a part of lupus awareness in this community. It is very underserved here in Austin."

ADA Diabetes Days

ARC was a sponsor for the American Diabetes Association Diabetes Sundays.
With this program ADA partners with church leaders to provide education and screenings (in partnership with medical professionals).
Last year the program provided outreach and education to over 12,000 Austinites. This year the ADA expanded it’s reach and served over 15,000 individuals.

Dr. Nadeen Wyndham Gray and Nurse Ruby Johnson represented Austin Regional Clinic and answered questions about prenatal care at Komfort Keepers Health Fair. Komfort Keepers offers advice and guidance in prenatal care to the African-American community. "I am very interested in patient education and community involvement in medicine," said Dr. Gray when asked why she attended this event.
